The Decision is Yours!

Polling Station Booth

After I decided on who I was going to vote for I pulled out the camera and asked the gentleman if I could take this shot. He asked why and I replied it was for a project, to let people see the process of voting though different photographs and to even show non voters what it was like inside the Polling Station. He claimed he didn't want to know my life story but it was ok to take the shot....

Arrows

Polling Station Banner

Here is the next Polling Station photo, quite an obvious shot but I decided I would go with it as it was the largest of all the banners I came across.
I am not so sure about the arrows or why people need directing to where it is but they looked quite excessive non the less!

And they're off!!

Man walking into Polling Station

This was taken at 11am when I first reached a Polling Station. I was fortunate enough to capture a bit of 'action' as a gentleman let me take his photo while walking to the door to vote (well I took it then asked!)
I like the different signs that are on the walls and as you will see in my next few posts the great use of arrows in these situations.

The Final Count Down

Sports Hall with people counting the votes

This is one of the final images in my series on The Election 2010. The count took place between 10pm-5am and the verdict is a Hung Parliament, which hasn't been seen since the 70's.
I was really glad to be apart of the count, even if it was only taking shots from a distance of the flurry of people working hard to get the count done.
I kept the series in Black and White as it gives it quite a serious feel to the images and seen as we were dealing with something serious it was appropriate.

Shops

Billboard poster near some shops.

This is the last of the Election Billboard photographs as it seems they are the only ones in my area! I have seen some smaller ones for the campaigners in the different wards so maybe I will move onto taking them?
It was also bought to my attention today the series is all one sided with only shots from the Tories campaign. This is mainly because Labour and the Lib Dems have no posters up but I have now seen this as a challenge to even up the series so watch this space!

Sunny

Photograph of an Election billboard campaign.

It took me a while to get this shot just right as it was placed in a busy street and I wanted the focus to be on the poster. The other images have all had something going on in the foreground but I wanted to keep this one as simple as I could. This is because I felt as the shooting went on I was over thinking what went into the photo. What reference in the shot could relate to what the billboard was saying. I think the surroundings of each poster reflects what they are trying to say. I found all the posters in a less developed area of Blackpool and on walls that were almost falling down - coincidence? I'm not sure but I think I'm over analyzing the situation.

Smokin'

Vandalised Billboard.

Vandalism is inevitable on Billboards and the clear white back ground and text of the Conservative Election Campaign is no exception. If anything it was designed this way for people to 'be creative with'.
So far I have only come across one in Blackpool and it is no were near as explicit as some I have seen on other sites. As the campaign heats up I wonder if they will still be untouched?

Bingo

Photograph of a Billboard with an Election poster in it.

Following on from yesterdays blog 'Smile' here is another in my Election series. Its compositionally not one of my favourites but I think put with the others in the series it serves a purpose. We can see the area these posters are being put in and even a hint at the residents. I am hoping each image will help to build up this bigger picture of the Election campaign in Blackpool.

Smile

Billboards with adverts for Conservative on.

I have decided to document The Election 2010 in Blackpool from the start of the advertising to the polling stations and then the final count on May 6th. I have never really been that interested in the Elections but this year it seems to be everywhere and I can't let it slip by without some photo documenting.
