Big Wheel

Photograph of the Big Wheel Blackpool

This abstract shot of the Big Wheel on Central Pier Blackpool was taken last year on the bank holiday weekend. I like how I managed to get the person pointing out as it makes it a bit more interesting. I am not really a fan of abstract shots but this one isn't so bad as the vibrant colours give it a bit of life.

Brilliance at Night

Brilliance Light Show at Night

Brilliance is now considered one of Blackpool's big wow factors. Its light show and music really bring the street alive during the evening and most recently in tangerine for the BFC homecoming parade. I enjoy doing night time photography as using the long shutter speed really brings out details out eye doesn't see. Strong light is always something that makes the images vibrant and contrasty.

Tracks in the Sand

Blackpool Prom at Sunset with Tractor doing work

During the winter months there was a lot of work going on along Blackpool Promenade as part of the regeneration. I was fortunate to get a good shot at dusk when the light caught all the ridges and tracks of the work in the sand. The orange sky really makes the image feel warm and inviting but it was quite a cold day!

The final scene at the Prom with all the fans looking very happy with the days event. A sea of tangerine in front of Blackpool Tower.

Glad All Over - Drummer Hoggy

Drummer Hoggy with Drum

Drummer Hoggy and friends banging the drum, chanting and feeling very Glad All Over! I love the way the light catches the water on the drum.

Glad All Over - Crowd

Crowd cheering for the Tangerine Army

Just before the bus arrived the crows was getting more and more excited, the chants started and so did the drum!

Glad All Over - Tangerine Crowd

A sea of tangerine people waiting for the players bus.

A sea of Tangerine on the Blackpool Promenade awaiting the players bus. Thousands lined the streets and cheered them on arrival.

Glad All Over - Charlie Adam Sky Sports Interview

Charlie Adam giving a Sky Sports interview.

Charlie Adam was one of the most sought after players for an interview after he scored for Blackpool last weekend. It was quite difficult to get all the players together for a group shot as you can imagine.

Glad All Over - Ian Holloway Speech

Ian Holloway giving a speech at the Civic Reception

The Civic Reception before the parade was a media frenzy and as you can see here when Ian Holloway got up to do his speech it was all eyes on him.
I tried to capture just how chaotic it is behind the scenes when all the media are trying to get that one shot or great camera position.

Glad All Over - Tower

Statue with the Tower

The last in the shots about the Town until Monday when I will get some of the homecoming. I tried to get the Tower in the back ground of this to give it some context but the reflections were quite distracting.

Glad All Over - Brilliance

Brilliance Light Show in Tangerine for the Football Club

Brilliance really was brilliant the other night when they played the Blackpool Football Club homecoming light show. I can imagine it will be a very busy place on Monday when the Tangerine Army return with all the fans.
I used a slow shutter speed to capture some small movement with a few people walking up the street but mainly to bring out a bit of the sky and make the colours vibrant.

Glad All Over - Sox Box

Blackpool Shop Window with Tangerine Merchandise for the Football

Well its almost the big day for Blackpool and I thought it best to document some great supporting shop windows and venues!
Sox Box on Church Street certainly have got the Blackpool spirit in them. I love the way they have kept the dog pillows in and especially the lettering above claiming they are 'Famous for service'.

The Decision is Yours!

Polling Station Booth

After I decided on who I was going to vote for I pulled out the camera and asked the gentleman if I could take this shot. He asked why and I replied it was for a project, to let people see the process of voting though different photographs and to even show non voters what it was like inside the Polling Station. He claimed he didn't want to know my life story but it was ok to take the shot....

Arrows

Polling Station Banner

Here is the next Polling Station photo, quite an obvious shot but I decided I would go with it as it was the largest of all the banners I came across.
I am not so sure about the arrows or why people need directing to where it is but they looked quite excessive non the less!

And they're off!!

Man walking into Polling Station

This was taken at 11am when I first reached a Polling Station. I was fortunate enough to capture a bit of 'action' as a gentleman let me take his photo while walking to the door to vote (well I took it then asked!)
I like the different signs that are on the walls and as you will see in my next few posts the great use of arrows in these situations.

The Final Count Down

Sports Hall with people counting the votes

This is one of the final images in my series on The Election 2010. The count took place between 10pm-5am and the verdict is a Hung Parliament, which hasn't been seen since the 70's.
I was really glad to be apart of the count, even if it was only taking shots from a distance of the flurry of people working hard to get the count done.
I kept the series in Black and White as it gives it quite a serious feel to the images and seen as we were dealing with something serious it was appropriate.

Blowin' in the Wind

Two Men by the Lake with their Model Boats.

This is the start of a new series of images taken around Fairhaven Boating Lake in Lytham. Most weeks you can find the Model Boating club down there sailing the various boats and ships all hand made and controlled by the owners. This type of hobby is something that I didn't even know existed until an exhibition at the local art gallery showcased some of their most prized pieces.
I have slightly muted the colors of these images as it was already an overcast day and I like the soft coloring it provides. I have focused on the people mainly as I found they were quite the characters after getting to know them!
